Job summary

Murphy is seeking a Quantity Surveyor to support commercial activities on energy projects around London and the South West. The role involves valuations, cost control, procurement scheduling and subcontract administration, with opportunities for progression to senior levels.

You should have a HND or Degree in QS, be registered with RICS/ICES or working towards chartership, and a strong grasp of NEC contracts and measurement standards. Murphy offers solid benefits and career development.

Responsibilities

• Assist in internal commercial reporting and other required reports.
• Prepare valuations/applications for payment with contract documentation.
• Control cost reports to client with contract documentation.
• Prepare and manage subcontract and material procurement schedules.
• Administer subcontractor/supplier accounts from requisitions to final accounts.
• Undertake contract administration including change management and registers.
• Identify commercial risks, opportunities, value engineering and change.
• Use cost allocation/coding satisfying internal and external requirements.
• Measure quantities per standard methods of measurement.
• Assist in preparing project final accounts.
• Draft subcontracts including professional services.

A day in the life of a Murphy Quantity Surveyor

• Aid in the internal commercial reporting and any other reports which may be required.
• Prepare Valuations/Applications for Payment with full documentation in accordance with the contract.
• Control of Cost Reports to the Client with contractually compliant documentation.
• Preparation and management of subcontract and material procurement schedules.
• Administration of subcontractor/supplier accounts from the preparation of detailed requisitions, monitoring, and authorisation of subcontract payments through to agreement of final accounts.
• Undertake the contract administration, including change management and maintain associated registers.
• Identifying commercial risks, opportunities, value engineering and change.
• Use the cost allocation/coding which satisfies both internal and external requirements.
• Measurement of quantities in accordance with the standard methods of measurement as required.
• Assist in the preparation of project final accounts.
• Drafting of subcontracts including professional services.

• Proven experience within a Commercial role i.e., Assistant Quantity Surveyor, Quantity Surveyor, or a similar role
• Registered with RICS / ICES and working towards chartership.
