Job summary

Murphy is recruiting a Quantity Surveyor to join our Infrastructure team, delivering a major water project with United Utilities as part of AMP8. You will work within a leading water contractor with a strong UK footprint, handling valuations, cost reporting and subcontract administration.

Ideal candidates hold a BSc (Hons) in Quantity Surveying, Chartered or working towards, with CSCS and a full UK driving license.

Qualifications

  • BSc (Hons) Degree in Quantity Surveying is essential.
  • Chartered status with RICS/CICES (or working towards) is preferred.
  • CSCS Card (White/Gold) and Full UK driving license required.
  • Good knowledge of NEC forms and Standard Methods of Measurement.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare valuations and payments with supporting documentation.
  • Manage subcontract and material procurement schedules.
  • Administer contracts including change management and maintain registers.
  • Identify commercial risks, opportunities and value engineering.
  • Maintain accurate site records and assist in final accounts.

Job description

Murphy is recruiting for a Quantity Surveyor join our growing Infrastructure team, delivering a major water infrastructure project in partnership with United Utilities, as part of the AMP8 programme.
Murphy is a long-standing delivery partner to leading water clients across the UK and Ireland, including Thames Water, Severn Trent, Northern Ireland Water, Yorkshire Water, SES Water, Bristol Water, South East Water, and Uisce Éireann, where we operate over 25 facilities under full DBOM contracts.

A day in the life of a Murphy Quantity Surveyor
  • Preparation of internal commercial reporting and any other reports which may be required.
  • Preparation of Valuations/Applications for Payment with full supporting documentation in accordance with the contract.
  • Preparation of Cost Reports to the Client with contractually compliant supporting documentation.
  • Preparation and management of subcontract and material procurement schedules.
  • Administration of subcontractor/supplier accounts from the preparation of detailed requisitions, monitoring and authorisation of subcontract payments through to agreement of final accounts.
  • Undertake the contract administration, including change management and maintain associated registers.
  • Identifying commercial risks, opportunities, value engineering and change.
  • Utilise the costing system.
  • Assist in cost control / cost mitigation.
  • Use the cost allocation/coding which satisfies both internal and external requirements.
  • Measurement of quantities in accordance with the standard methods of measurement as required.
  • Maintain accurate site records.
  • Assist in the preparation of project final accounts
  • Drafting of subcontracts including professional services contracts.
  • Identification of insurance claims and understanding policy coverage.
  • Attend client engagement events for equivalent level customer feedback.
  • Cash Management including WIP control and cash flow production
  • Engagement with junior members of the team to develop emerging talent within the organisation

  • BSc (Hons) Degree in Quantity Surveying (or equivalent qualification) (essential)
  • Chartered status with RICS / CICES (or similar) or working towards Member status.
  • Strong background in Civil Engineering / Mechanical works (desirable)
  • CSCS Card (White / Gold Card)
  • Full UK driving license
  • Commercially astute with knowledge of common commercial practices (Applications for Payment / Cost and Value Reporting).
  • Good knowledge of Standard Forms of Contract (NEC particularly) and Standard Methods of Measurement.
  • Good communication skills including presentations and ability to negotiate and persuade others.
  • Experience within a construction/engineering/similar and commercial background.
