Job summary

McLaughlin & Harvey Ltd is seeking a Quantity Surveyor to lead budgeting, procurement, and commercial control on high value projects. The role requires degree qualification and construction experience, with strong knowledge of JCT/NEC contracts, and excellent negotiation and communication skills.

Hybrid/flexible working and a competitive benefits package are on offer. You will manage budgets, variances, valuations, and cost reports, while liaising with site teams and commercial staff to deliver

Qualifications

• Degree qualified with construction experience.
• Good knowledge of JCT and NEC contracts.
• Strong commercial awareness and negotiation skills.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills.
• Ability to meet deadlines and work with minimal supervision.
• Willingness to travel to site.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and analyse budgets.
• Procure the supply chain and prepare order documentation.
• Assess and certify subcontractor interim payments.
• Prepare interim valuations and final accounts.
• Manage and value variation accounts.
• Assist with extensions of time claims and loss/expense submissions.
• Identify and manage commercial risks.
• Produce monthly Cost Value Reconciliation reports.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
• Ensure interaction between commercial and site teams.

What you will be doing

• Preparation and analysis of budgets
• Procurement of the Supply Chain and preparation of order documentation in accordance with company management systems
• Assessment and certification of Sub-Contractor interim payments ensuring the appropriate notices are issued
• Preparation of Interim Valuations and Final Account submissions
• Managing and valuing Variation accounts
• Assist with the preparation of Extension of Time claims and Loss and Expense submissions
• Identification and management of Commercial risks
• Assist with the production of robust and accurate monthly Cost Value Reconciliation reports
• Establish, maintain and enhance effective working relationships
• Ensure effective interaction between the commercial and operational site teams

What We’re Looking For

• Degree Qualified Candidate
• Construction Experience
• Good knowledge of construction contracts particularly the JCT & NEC Forms of Contract
• Sound Commercial Awareness
• Excellent communication & negotiation skills
• High levels of organisational skills
• Ability to meet deadlinesExcellent numerical, IT and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work on initiative with minimum supervision
• Ability to travel frequently to Site, as and when required
