Job summary

Aldwych Consulting has partnered with a leading UK contractor to recruit a Senior Quantity Surveyor for their Grimsby team. This role offers hybrid working and the opportunity to work on major infrastructure and technically complex projects.

You will take a senior commercial lead, managing costs, CVRs, forecasts, valuations and final accounts, while mentoring junior commercial staff and providing commercial input to bids and client negotiations.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying or equivalent required.
  • Experience leading commercial aspects of complex projects.
  • Strong knowledge of CVRs, forecasts, valuations, variations and final accounts.
  • Excellent contractual and commercial judgement.
  • Experience in infrastructure/energy/rail or technically complex construction is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Take commercial responsibility for project costs, budgets and profitability.
  • Manage CVRs, forecasting, valuations and commercial reporting.
  • Lead variations, claims and final account negotiations.
  • Manage subcontractor procurement, payments and accounts.
  • Identify and manage commercial risks and opportunities.
  • Provide commercial and contractual advice to project teams.
  • Maintain robust commercial controls and accurate project records.
  • Work closely with operational teams to monitor progress and project performance.
  • Manage commercial negotiations with clients and subcontractors.
  • Support tendering and provide commercial input into bids where required.
  • Support and mentor junior members of the commercial team.

Senior Quantity Surveyor - Grimsby

We're working with one of the UK's leading specialist construction and engineering contractors to recruit a Senior Quantity Surveyor for its team in Grimsby.

This is a business behind some of the UK's most complex and high-profile construction and infrastructure projects, delivering major structures across transport, clean energy and the built environment. Their work includes technically challenging bridges, viaducts, tunnels, major transport infrastructure and complex structural projects, often within highly regulated and operationally sensitive environments.

The Role

You’ll take a senior commercial role on projects, working closely with operational teams, subcontractors and clients to drive commercial performance from delivery through to final account.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Taking commercial responsibility for project costs, budgets and profitability
  • Managing CVRs, forecasting, valuations and commercial reporting
  • Leading variations, claims and final account negotiations

What We're Looking For
  • Strong Quantity Surveying experience within construction or specialist contracting
  • Proven experience taking commercial responsibility for projects
  • Strong knowledge of CVRs, forecasting, valuations, variations, claims and final accounts
  • Good contractual knowledge and commercial judgement
  • Experience within infrastructure, structural steelwork, reinforced concrete, energy, rail, M&E, industrial or other technically complex construction would be advantageous
  • Strong client-facing, negotiation and communication skills
  • Degree/HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying preferred, although relevant industry experience will also be considered
  • Commercially astute, proactive and comfortable taking ownership of project performance
