Job summary

Aldwych Consulting is seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor for a high-profile infrastructure programme in Kent. The role requires taking commercial ownership of major work packages and leading the project’s commercial team.

You will manage applications, valuations, CVRs, cost-to-complete, and change control while mentoring junior staff and ensuring adherence to commercial procedures.

Qualifications

  • Strong experience in civil engineering, infrastructure or major construction projects.
  • Significant main contractor or specialist contractor experience.
  • Strong subcontract management experience.
  • Excellent knowledge of cost control, forecasting and change management.
  • Experience managing commercial packages independently.
  • Strong understanding of construction contracts. NEC experience desirable.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead commercial management across allocated packages and provide commercial leadership on the project.
  • Manage applications, valuations and payment processes.
  • Prepare and manage CVRs and monthly financial reports.
  • Manage cost-to-complete and forecasting and drive change control and variation management.
  • Identify and manage commercial risk and oversee the full subcontract lifecycle.
  • Procure and negotiate subcontract packages and provide commercial advice to the Project Manager and delivery team.
  • Mentor junior commercial staff and support project-level commercial strategy.
  • Ensure compliance with company commercial procedures and address commercial issues or disputes.

Job description

A leading infrastructure contractor is seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team on a major long-term infrastructure programme in Kent.

This is an opportunity for an experienced commercial professional to take a senior role within a technically complex project environment, working closely with the Project and Commercial Management teams.

The Role

You will take responsibility for the commercial management of significant work packages and provide commercial leadership across the project.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading commercial management across allocated packages
  • Managing applications, valuations and payment processes
  • Preparing and managing CVRs and monthly financial reports
  • Managing cost-to-complete and forecasting
  • Leading change control and variation management
  • Identifying and managing commercial risk
  • Managing the full subcontract lifecycle
  • Procurement and negotiation of subcontract packages
  • Providing commercial advice to the Project Manager and wider delivery team
  • Supporting contract administration
  • Managing commercial issues, disputes and negotiations
  • Mentoring and developing junior commercial staff
  • Supporting project-level commercial strategy
  • Ensuring compliance with company commercial procedures
About You

The successful Senior Quantity Surveyor will ideally have:

  • Strong experience within civil engineering, infrastructure or major construction projects
  • Significant main contractor or specialist contractor experience
  • Strong subcontract management experience
  • Excellent knowledge of cost control, forecasting and change management
  • Experience managing commercial packages independently
  • Strong understanding of construction contracts
  • NEC experience would be highly desirable
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and leadership skills
  • A relevant degree or HNC/HND qualification

This role would suit an ambitious Senior QS looking for a long-term project where they can take ownership of major commercial packages and progress within a growing commercial team.
