Balfour Beatty plc is recruiting a Senior Quantity Surveyor to support the Skye 132kV Reinforcement Project in Scotland. The role offers flexible location options with offices in Motherwell, Inverness, or the Fort Augustus project office, but regular site presence is essential.

You’ll lead cost management from inception to final account, producing cost plans, tender evaluations and NEC contract administration while mentoring junior team members and building strong client and supply-chain

Qualifications

• Degree in Quantity Surveying or equivalent required.
• Chartered status or working towards RICS/CIOB.
• Strong NEC contract administration experience.
• Experience on major civil/utility projects.
• Excellent commercial awareness and cost control.
• Able to build strong client and supply-chain relationships.
• Experience mentoring others in a commercial team.
• Proactive problem-solving approach.

Responsibilities

• Manage project costs, forecasts and commercial performance.
• Prepare activity schedules, cost plans and tender evaluations.
• Administer NEC contracts, including CENs and compensation events.
• Manage subcontractor accounts and supply chain relationships.
• Identify and manage commercial risks and opportunities.
• Produce accurate commercial reporting and forecasts.
• Support procurement activities and contract negotiations.
• Mentor junior commercial staff and collaborate with stakeholders.

About the role

Balfour Beatty Power T&D is seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor to support the delivery of the Skye 132kV Reinforcement Project, a major investment in Scotland's energy network. Flexible Location Options: We recognise the importance of flexibility and can offer the opportunity to be based from our offices in Motherwell, Inverness, or our project office in Fort Augustus. Hybrid working arrangements are available; however, this is a project-focused role and regular site presence is essential. We are looking for someone who enjoys being close to the works, building strong relationships with operational teams, and playing an active role in supporting project delivery across this landmark scheme.

What you'll be doing

As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you'll play a key role in the commercial success of the project, managing costs from inception through to final account while ensuring value for money and maintaining the highest standards of quality and governance.

Key responsibilities include:

• Managing project costs, forecasts and commercial performance.
• Preparing activity schedules, cost plans and tender evaluations.
• Administering NEC contracts, including CENs, EWNs and compensation events.
• Managing subcontractor accounts and supply chain relationships.
• Identifying and managing commercial risks and opportunities.
• Producing accurate commercial reporting and financial forecasts.
• Supporting procurement activities and contract negotiations.
• Mentoring and developing junior members of the commercial team.
• Working closely with project stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.

Who we're looking for

• Degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying or equivalent experience.
• Chartered status, or working towards membership of RICS, CIOB or ICES.
• Strong NEC contract administration experience.
• Experience working on major civil engineering, utilities or infrastructure projects.
• Excellent commercial awareness and cost management skills.
• Ability to build strong relationships with clients, subcontractors and project teams.
• Experience leading, mentoring and developing others.
• A proactive approach to problem-solving and delivering results.
