Job summary

Balfour Beatty Power T&D is seeking a Quantity Surveyor to support the Skye 132kV Reinforcement Project in Scotland, with flexibility to be based in Motherwell, Inverness, or Fort Augustus. The role is project-focused, with hybrid working and regular site presence essential to integrate with delivery teams.

You will manage costs and commercial activities, mentor junior surveyors, and contribute to delivering value while maintaining high quality and governance standards across the project.

Qualifications

  • BSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying, or equivalent industry experience.
  • Chartered, or working towards membership of RICS, CIOB or ICES.
  • Experience within construction, civil engineering, utilities or infrastructure projects.
  • Strong commercial awareness and understanding of NEC contracts.
  • Ability to manage subcontractors and commercial processes effectively.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • A proactive, collaborative approach with a passion for delivering successful outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Managing costs and income within your area of responsibility.
  • Measuring, recording and valuing works in accordance with company procedures.
  • Preparing cost reconciliations, bills of quantities and schedules of rates.
  • Building estimates from first principles.
  • Supporting subcontractor procurement, enquiries and account management.
  • Managing NEC contract documentation, including compensation events and early warnings.
  • Reviewing project programmes and planning commercial activities accordingly.
  • Producing accurate cost and value reporting.
  • Building strong relationships with customers, stakeholders and the wider project team.
  • Supporting and mentoring Assistant, Trainee and Apprentice Quantity Surveyors.

About the role

Balfour Beatty Power T&D is seeking a Quantity Surveyor to support the delivery of the Skye 132kV Reinforcement Project, a major investment in Scotland's energy network. Flexible Location Options: We can offer flexibility for you to be based from our offices in Motherwell, Inverness, or our project office in Fort Augustus. Hybrid working arrangements are available; however, this is a project-focused role and regular site presence is essential. We're looking for someone who enjoys being close to the works, building strong relationships with site teams, and playing an active role in project delivery.

What you'll be doing

As a Quantity Surveyor, you'll support the commercial management of the project, helping to ensure successful delivery while maximising value and maintaining high standards of quality and governance.
