Job summary

Bennett and Game Recruitment LTD is seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor to take commercial ownership across envelope and external works projects in London. Projects range from £5m to £15m, with robust cost control from award to final account.

You will lead commercial strategy, negotiate contracts, and mentor junior staff, while maintaining client and supply-chain relationships on a hybrid-working basis from North Greenwich.

Qualifications

• Proven Senior QS experience within building envelope, cladding, facade or external works packages.
• Strong track record delivering projects of £5 million plus, ideally up to £15 million.
• Confident managing multiple projects from tender handover to final account.
• Sound working knowledge of contract forms, particularly JCT.
• Solid skills in measurement, valuations, variations, CVRs and cost reporting.

Responsibilities

• Take full commercial ownership of a portfolio of external envelope and associated works packages.
• Manage projects from contract award through to final account with robust cost control.
• Lead on commercial strategy, contract negotiations and issue resolution.
• Prepare, submit and agree interim valuations, variations, contra-charges and final accounts.
• Manage all commercial reporting including CVRs, cost forecasting, change management and cash flow.
• Identify and mitigate commercial and contractual risks across the lifecycle.
• Oversee subcontract procurement, administration and payment processes.
• Prepare and manage claims and contractual notices.
• Support value engineering and tender reviews.
• Mentor junior commercial team members.
• Maintain relationships with clients, main contractors and supply chain.

Job description

This is a genuinely strong opportunity to take a senior commercial position with a growing specialist building envelope contractor operating on some of the more technically demanding external works schemes across London. The business has built its reputation delivering complex recladding, external wall insulation, light steel framing, brickwork, roofing and curtain walling packages, and now needs a Senior QS to take commercial ownership across projects with values ranging from £5 million to £15 million.

Based in modern riverside offices in North Greenwich, the company employs around 30 staff and works predominantly inside the M25 alongside select schemes in the wider South East. Projects span both new build envelope work and remedial and recladding schemes, with a growing pipeline of secured work. FIRAS certification for passive fire protection and cavity barriers reflects the technical standards the business operates to.

This role sits at the heart of commercial delivery. Reporting to senior leadership, you will take full ownership of the commercial performance of your project portfolio, work closely with hands-on directors and mentor junior members of the commercial team. This is a business where decisions get made quickly, good performance is genuinely recognised and the individual has real influence.

• Strong track record delivering projects of £5 million plus, ideally with values up to £15 million
• Confident managing multiple projects concurrently from tender handover through to final account
• Sound working knowledge of standard forms of contract, particularly JCT
• Solid skills in measurement, valuations, variations, CVRs and cost reporting
• Experience of subcontract procurement, administration and payment processes
• Strong commercial and financial management skills with genuine attention to detail
• Confident communicator and negotiator, comfortable dealing directly with clients, consultants and subcontractors
• Comfortable mentoring and developing junior team membersFull UK driving licence with willingness to travel to sites primarily across London and the South East
• Ideally based within a commutable distance of North Greenwich or the wider M25
