Job summary

Thomas Gray Ltd, an established UK MEP engineering contractor, seeks a Senior Quantity Surveyor to assume full commercial responsibility for projects valued between £15m and £25m.

Reporting to the board, you will oversee P&L, cash flow, procurement, valuations and final accounts, while mentoring the commercial team and collaborating with delivery personnel to drive successful project outcomes.

Qualifications

• Experience as Senior Quantity Surveyor on large construction projects.
• A track record of managing P&L and project financial performance.
• Strong procurement and subcontractor management skills.

Responsibilities

• Take full commercial responsibility for one to three projects.
• Manage project cash flow, forecasting and reporting.
• Procurement and commercial management of subcontractors.
• Manage valuations, variations and final accounts.
• Identify and manage commercial risks.

Job description

We are working with an established MEP engineering contractor delivering high-quality mechanical, electrical and public health solutions across the UK.

The business has built its reputation through strong technical expertise, proactive project management and long-term client relationships. It delivers reliable, compliant and innovative engineering solutions across residential and commercial developments.

Due to continued growth, the company is seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to take full commercial responsibility for between one and three projects, typically valued between £15 million and £25 million.

Reporting directly to the board, you will be responsible for the financial and commercial performance of your projects, including:

• Full profit and loss responsibility
• Managing project cash flow, forecasting and reporting
• Procurement and commercial management of subcontractors
• Managing valuations, variations and final accounts
• Identifying and resolving commercial risks
• Providing clear commercial updates to the board
• Working closely with operational and project delivery teams
• Supporting and mentoring junior members of the commercial team
• Taking a proactive, solution-focused approach to project challenges

The successful candidate will ideally have experience working for an M&E contractor, particularly on residential schemes. However, candidates with strong commercial experience across a broader range of building projects will also be considered.

You should be commercially astute, confident managing significant project values and comfortable operating with a high degree of responsibility and autonomy. A stable career history demonstrating longevity and progression within previous employers is essential.
