Job summary

Building Careers UK Ltd is seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor for a leading main contractor in Lancashire. You will oversee commercial delivery across multiple projects from pre-contract to final account and collaborate with Project Managers to maximise value.

The role requires strong knowledge of JCT/NEC contracts, proven leadership, and the ability to mentor junior staff. Salary ranges £65,000-£75,000 with excellent benefits and long-term progression.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor within a Main Contractor environment.
  • Experience delivering projects across education, healthcare, commercial, industrial, residential or public sector.
  • Strong knowledge of JCT and/or NEC contracts.
  • Excellent commercial awareness and contractual knowledge.
  • Experience managing projects through the full commercial lifecycle.
  • Strong negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
  • Excellent communication and organisational abilities.
  • Degree qualification in Quantity Surveying or related discipline.
  • RICS membership or working towards chartered status advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Managing the commercial delivery of multiple construction projects from pre-contract through to final account.
  • Preparing and managing cost plans, valuations, variations, and final accounts.
  • Procuring and managing subcontractor packages.
  • Producing accurate CVRs, cost forecasts, and commercial reports.
  • Monitoring project costs and ensuring commercial performance is maximised.
  • Identifying and managing commercial risks and opportunities throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Administering contracts and ensuring contractual compliance.
  • Working closely with Project Managers and operational teams to deliver projects on time and within budget.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and stakeholders.
  • Supporting and mentoring junior members of the commercial team.

The Role

As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for:



  • Managing the commercial delivery of multiple construction projects from pre-contract through to final account


  • Preparing and managing cost plans, valuations, variations, and final accounts


  • Procuring and managing subcontractor packages

The Ideal Candidate

The successful Senior Quantity Surveyor will have:



  • Proven experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor within a Main Contractor environment


  • Experience delivering projects across sectors such as education, healthcare, commercial, industrial, residential, or public sector developments


  • Strong knowledge of JCT and/or NEC contracts


  • Excellent commercial awareness and contractual knowledge


  • Experience managing projects through the full commercial lifecycle


  • Strong negotiation and stakeholder management skills


  • Excellent communication and organisational abilities


  • Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline


  • Membership of RICS or working towards chartered status would be advantageous
