Job summary

Building Careers UK Ltd is recruiting a Project Quantity Surveyor for a Preston-based role with a leading regional main contractor. You will manage commercial delivery from award to final account, prepare valuations and pay applications, and procure subcontracts while maintaining strong client and supply‑chain relationships.

The ideal candidate will have a degree in Quantity Surveying, proven main contractor experience, and solid knowledge of JCT/NEC contracts.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying or equivalent.
  • Experience with JCT/NEC contracts and cost control.
  • Strong communication and organisational abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Managing the commercial delivery of construction projects from contract award through to final account.
  • Preparing and submitting valuations, applications for payment, variations, and final accounts.
  • Procuring and managing subcontractor packages.
  • Producing accurate CVRs, cost forecasts, and commercial reports.
  • Monitoring project costs to maximise profitability and commercial performance.
  • Identifying and managing commercial risks and opportunities.
  • Administering contracts and ensuring compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Working closely with Project Managers and site teams to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Building relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Supporting the Commercial Manager with reporting and strategic commercial decisions.

The Role

As Project Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for:

  • Managing the commercial delivery of construction projects from contract award through to final account

The Ideal Candidate

The successful Project Quantity Surveyor will have:

  • Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor or Project Quantity Surveyor within a Main Contractor environment

  • Experience delivering projects across sectors such as education, healthcare, commercial, industrial, residential, or public sector developments

  • Strong knowledge of JCT and/or NEC contracts

  • Excellent commercial awareness and contractual knowledge

  • Experience managing projects through the full commercial lifecycle

  • Strong negotiation and stakeholder management skills

  • Excellent communication and organisational abilities

  • Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline

  • Membership of RICS or working towards chartered status would be advantageous
