Job summary

MERITUS are recruiting for a Chief Quality Inspector to join our precision manufacturing client in Basildon, Essex. You will lead the day-to-day inspection function, act as the technical bridge between Quality Management and the shop-floor team, and ensure components meet the highest standards before release.

This hands-on role requires practical leadership on the shop floor, mentoring inspectors, reading engineering drawings, and programming CMMs to support aerospace and defence programmes.

Qualifications

• Experience in precision manufacturing quality inspection.
• Ability to read third-angle engineering drawings and GD&T.
• Experience programming and operating CMM equipment.
• Proven mentoring or leadership of inspection teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day inspection across the business.
• Program and operate CMM equipment.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings and tolerances.
• Mentor inspectors and drive continuous improvement.
• Act as the link between inspection team and Quality Manager.
• Support quality investigations and non-conformance resolution.
