Searchability NS&D is seeking a Senior Python Software Engineer to join their London team. The role focuses on building scalable backend services for AI/ML solutions, collaborating with data scientists and engineers to productionise models.

You will design APIs, leverage cloud platforms, and employ Docker/Kubernetes to scale applications, while upholding secure, maintainable software practices. Active SC or DV clearance is required.

Qualifications

• Strong commercial experience developing backend applications and services using Python.
• Solid software engineering fundamentals, including clean code, testing and maintainable system design.
• Experience building APIs, integrations and scalable software systems.
• Knowledge of machine learning concepts and an understanding of how ML models are deployed and used in production.
• Experience with ML-enabled applications or integrating models built using frameworks such as Scikit-learn, TensorFlow or PyTorch.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure or GCP.
• Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes and modern software deployment practices.
• Understanding of infrastructure, application security and production environments.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
• Active SC or DV security clearance.

I'm currently working with an organisation delivering innovative AI and software solutions within the UK Defence sector, who are looking for a strongPython Backend Engineer with knowledge of machine learning to join their growing team.

THE ROLE

This is a hands‑on engineering role focused on building scalable backend applications, services and infrastructure that support AI and machine learning solutions. You'll work alongside data scientists and other engineers to turn ML capabilities into reliable, production-ready software, with a focus on software engineering rather than developing models from scratch.

Responsibilities include:

• Designing, developing and maintaining scalable backend applications and services using Python.
• Building APIs, integrations and software infrastructure to support AI and machine learning solutions.
• Working alongside data scientists to integrate and operationalise ML models within production systems.
