Job summary

Searchability in London is seeking a Senior Python Software Engineer with active SC or DV clearance to join a defence-focused AI and software solutions team. This permanent role combines hands-on backend development with scalable architectures.

You will design and build backend services, APIs, and infrastructure using Python, Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud platforms while collaborating with data scientists to operationalise ML models in production.

Qualifications

• Strong commercial experience developing backend applications and services using Python.

• Salary: Up to £100,000 base

• Working Pattern: Hybrid - 2-4 days per week on-site

I'm currently working with an organisation delivering innovative AI and software solutions within the UK Defence sector, who are looking for a strong Python Backend Engineer with knowledge of machine learning to join their growing team.

The Role

This is a hands-on engineering role focused on building scalable backend applications, services and infrastructure that support AI and machine learning solutions. You'll work alongside data scientists and other engineers to turn ML capabilities into reliable, production-ready software, with a focus on software engineering rather than developing models from scratch.

Responsibilities include:

• Solid software engineering fundamentals, including clean code, testing and maintainable system design.
• Experience building APIs, integrations and scalable software systems.
• Knowledge of machine learning concepts and an understanding of how ML models are deployed and used in production.
• Experience working with ML-enabled applications or integrating models built using frameworks such as Scikit-learn, TensorFlow or PyTorch.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure or GCP.
• Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes and modern software deployment practices.
• An understanding of infrastructure, application security and production environments.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
• Active SC or DV security clearance.
