Job summary

IBM Consulting UK is seeking a Senior Application Architect to shape, design and deliver scalable, secure software solutions across complex enterprise environments. You will lead architectural decisions, mentor engineers, and collaborate with stakeholders to drive cloud adoption and modernisation.

This role requires strong Java, microservices and AWS/Kubernetes experience, with a focus on architectural artefacts, governance and scalable delivery in a hybrid work setting.

Qualifications

• Experience designing enterprise-scale applications and distributed systems.
• Strong background in Java and modern application development frameworks.
• Experience designing microservices-based architectures and RESTful APIs.
• Experience working within cloud environments, ideally AWS.
• Strong understanding of software architecture patterns, design principles and engineering best practices.
• Experience modernising legacy applications and supporting cloud adoption initiatives.
• Experience working with container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes/EKS.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automation and modern software delivery practices.
• Ability to communicate architecture decisions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience producing architecture deliverables such as HLDs, solution designs and technical decision records.

Responsibilities

• Define application architectures aligned to business and user requirements.
• Lead architecture patterns for web apps, APIs, integrations.
• Drive modernisation of legacy apps and cloud adoption.
• Produce High-Level Designs and architecture roadmaps.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to implement architecture.
• Define integrations across apps, data platforms and APIs.
• Partner with cloud teams to optimise for AWS.
• Promote best practices in security, performance, observability.
• Support architecture governance through reviews and records.
• Mentor engineers and junior architects.
