Role Overview

The Senior Proposal Manager will sit within The Creative Lab, a high performing specialist unit, focused on the creation and production of sales documents across Compass UK&I. The team work nationally, managing high value bids, proposals and presentations across multiple sectors. The role of Senior Proposal Manager is aligned to Chartwells, in line with the objectives of the Sector Growth Director.

Your Role – Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all aspects of bid creation, management, and submission for Big Bet and Tier 1 opportunities (£1-£3m+).
  • Manage the creation of proposals and presentations, including bid writing, project management of the bid lifecycle, developing win strategies, and creating bid brand guidelines. Manage external suppliers and consultants.
  • Ensure Chartwells follows the bid process and meets all stages including kick-off meetings and reviews.
  • Support Sales and Retention Lead in identifying win strategies, solution design, and managing tender clarification logs and bid preparation.
  • Support bid team workshops to capture win themes, conduct competitor and SWOT analyses, and articulate winning strategies throughout responses.
  • Manage storyboard sessions with SMEs and sector content projects.
  • Assist sector bid writers in creating compelling, sector-specific responses.
  • Support the design process using Adobe Creative Suite for high-impact bids and presentations.
  • Brief Bid Designers and collaborate on conceptual development, artworking, and printing.
  • Conduct post-pitch debriefs to update bid content and provide feedback.
  • Promote bid strategy best practices within The Creative Lab and Sector, including red thread thinking, bid branding, and value propositions.
  • Review Tier 1 and Tier 2 opportunities with the Bid Team Manager to ensure quality, personalization, and clear demonstration of WITY principles.
  • Train team members to improve bid quality in collaboration with the Bid Team Manager and Growth Director.
Essential Skills & Experience

  • Recognized bid expert who shares knowledge, advises, and inspires others.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in bid management with a deep understanding of the sales/bid cycle at a senior level.
  • Creative strategic thinking and innovative approach to solutions.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to coach, challenge, and influence senior stakeholders; motivated and inspiring leadership qualities; persuasive communication skills.
  • Proven success in managing and winning complex bids.
  • Strong bid writing skills to produce compelling sales documents.
  • Ability to develop, drive, and implement new bid solutions and strategies.
  • Share knowledge and advise others as a recognized bid expert.
