Hybrid Working: 3 days per week on-site in Plymouth

The Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Project Sponsor to join a newly established and growing team at the heart of a major infrastructure programme. This is a high-profile opportunity to influence and shape the delivery of complex infrastructure projects, working alongside a broad range of industry partners and stakeholders.

Acting under delegation from the Project Sponsor Team Lead, you will be accountable for applying a systems-based approach to infrastructure delivery, ensuring project outcomes are successfully realised within approved performance, cost and time parameters. You will provide leadership, governance, challenge and assurance throughout the project lifecycle, enabling effective decision-making and ensuring the organisation remains an intelligent client.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development, ownership and management of project requirements throughout the entire project lifecycle. Define infrastructure requirements, functional requirements, success criteria and measurable project outcomes. Identify, analyse and engage internal and external stakeholders, ensuring alignment and commitment to project objectives. Build and maintain effective relationships with subject matter experts, functional managers and senior stakeholders. Champion the strategic intent of projects, protecting benefits and ensuring delivery remains aligned to business objectives. Provide constructive challenge and support to project leadership teams, acting as a critical friend to drive successful outcomes. Establish, develop and apply robust governance arrangements, enabling timely and effective decision-making. Monitor project performance against cost, schedule and performance measures, providing assurance, reporting and recommendations to senior leadership.

You Will Need (Essential Requirements)

• Significant experience supporting or delivering infrastructure projects within a complex environment. Strong understanding of requirements management and translating strategic objectives into deliverable project requirements. Proven stakeholder management experience, including achieving alignment across competing priorities and interests. Experience developing and applying governance frameworks within projects or change initiatives. Demonstrable ability to review, challenge and report project performance to senior management teams.

Desirable Experience

• Engineering background with an understanding of infrastructure or equipment project delivery. Experience working within integrated project teams comprising civilian, military and contractor personnel. APM qualification (or equivalent) and/or qualified by experience. Awareness of NEC4 contracts and commercial delivery environments. Degree in a technical discipline and/or membership of INCOSE.
