Job description

Overview

We're AtkinsRéalis, a world-leading design, engineering, and project management organization. We connect people, data, and technology to transform the world's'infrastructure and energy systems.

Our Complex Projects team are proud to deliver on some of the most prestigious construction projects across the world. It's thanks to our talented people and their diverse thinking, expertise, and knowledge. Join us and you'll be part of our genuinely collaborative environment, where everyone is supported to make the most of their talents and expertise.

We have long-term and growing contracts across the infrastructure sector, with HS2, Network Rail, National Highways, Combined Authorities nationwide, along with key energy, defence, aviation and utility companies amongst our clients. Our continuous growth is built on our excellent service and expertise of our people.

Due to significant growth and ongoing success, we are looking for NEC3 and NEC4 accredited or experienced Senior Project Managers to support the delivery of clients' projects across the nuclear new-built and major energy infrastructure sectors, including landmark programmes such as Hinkley Point C (HPC) and Sizewell C. We are looking to speak to people who have delivered in nuclear, or in another highly regulated industry such as defence, rail or aviation, and those who believe they have the transferable skills to succeed in the nuclear environment.

Work with us as a Senior Project Manager and play a central role in making exciting and diverse projects a reality. Valued up to £50m+, your projects will range across the complex infrastructure and nuclear new-build sectors.

AtkinsRéalis is renowned for the expertise, experience and excellence of its people - we place great emphasis on succession planning and training.

Your role
  • Provide high-quality project and programme management standards across the whole project lifecycle, from concept to handover.

  • Take responsibility for the direction and leadership of all activities associated with the delivery of a major contract or package, ensuring it is delivered safely, of the required quality, on time and to budget.

  • Advise clients on project cost, programme, risks and issues.

  • Lead and manage multi-disciplinary professional teams and multiple work packages, establishing clear roles and responsibilities.

  • Lead communications and relationships with clients and their stakeholders and manage direct and matrix reporting lines.

  • Develop and execute effective execution strategies and plans in line with the overall Programme Execution Plan (PEP), setting out the "why", "what", "how", "when" and "who" for delivery.

  • Ensure contractor schedules (Levels 3 and 4 detailed control schedules) are developed and maintained and remain consistent with the overall project schedule (Levels 1 and 2).

  • Set up and manage a near-term (e.g. 16-week) work plan to drive delivery week by week.

  • Anticipate, manage and resolve issues and risks within the contract or package, escalating to the Delivery Manager where required, and manage change control and the quality plan for your contracts.

  • Ensure the List of Deliverables (LOD) for your scope is delivered and provide all reporting relating to the scope.

  • Apply the principles of Earned Value Management (EVM) and Continuous Improvement and ensure lessons-learnt and knowledge-capture are practiced as business as usual.

  • Challenge the status quo and perform to a high standard in changing environments, constantly pursuing performance improvement.

About you
  • Hold Chartership status with a recognized professional body, or be working towards one, i.e. APM, ICE, RICS or similar.

  • Significant experience of complex infrastructure projects and/or programme management across the project lifecycle, including technical design management; a track record of delivery within a technically complex and dynamic environment while ensuring high levels of safety, security and environmental responsibility - ideally within the nuclear energy sector or a similar regulated environment.

  • Experience in leading and managing a multi-disciplinary team and various work packages.

  • Experience in the adoption and management of best-practice Project Management techniques, in line with the requirements under HSE laws and regulations.

  • Knowledge of pre- and post-contract Project Management responsibilities and the ability to deliver this service effectively to clients.

  • Significant experience as named Project Manager, use of CEMAR or similar systems, and a working knowledge of the ECC/PSC NEC suite of contracts is essential; experience of FIDIC is advantageous. NEC Accreditation is preferable.

  • Demonstrated control of cost, risk, schedule and change, and proficiency in the use of Earned Value tools; experience of the close-out of commercial claims and associated negotiations.

  • Good knowledge of CDM Regulations.

  • Excellent presentation, influencing and facilitation skills, with the ability to develop relationships and maintain effective networks.

  • Strong stakeholder management skills, comfortable working with multiple types of stakeholders with a diverse range of personalities across our client base.
