Job summary

Carmichael UK is seeking a highly experienced Project Manager to lead a major earthworks package for the Lower Thames Crossing. You will oversee large-scale operations, guide multidisciplinary teams, and work with senior leadership to meet programme objectives while maintaining safety, quality and commercial performance.

The role requires a strong background in bulk earthworks, mass haul and major infrastructure projects, with a proven ability to manage budgets, timelines and client

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Project Manager within civil engineering or major infrastructure.
• Experience delivering bulk earthworks, linear earthworks, mass haul or large-scale earthmoving projects.
• Strong knowledge of earthmoving plant, production outputs, methodologies and operational constraints.
• Experience managing large site teams and multiple work fronts.
• Ability to develop and manage project budgets and resourced programmes.
• Good commercial awareness with a track record of delivering projects successfully.
• Strong knowledge of earthworks specifications, materials management and construction methodologies.
• Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to make sound decisions in a fast-paced project environment.
• Relevant CSCS card.
• SMSTS preferred.
• Degree or HNC/HND in Civil Engineering or a related discipline advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Lead a sectional delivery team to ensure earthworks are completed safely, efficiently, and in line with programme requirements.
• Manage day-to-day site operations across large-scale earthworks activities.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with the client, project stakeholders, supply chain partners and local communities.
• Drive a positive safety culture and ensure compliance with all health, safety and environmental requirements.
• Monitor project progress, identify risks and implement mitigation measures.
• Produce and manage detailed delivery programmes, resource plans and project budgets.
• Work closely with commercial, engineering and support functions to ensure successful project delivery.
• Ensure compliance with project specifications, technical standards and materials management requirements.
• Identify opportunities to improve productivity, efficiency and cost performance.
• Provide regular progress updates to senior leadership and contribute to project-wide strategic planning.
• Support the development and mentoring of site management and engineering teams.
