Job summary

Babcock is seeking a Senior Project Manager to lead PMO activities across a complex portfolio of digital and infrastructure projects at the Devonport Royal Dockyard site in Plymouth. The role focuses on governance, project controls, and portfolio performance insights for senior leaders.

You will influence strategic planning, drive continuous improvement, and develop leadership and stakeholder management skills within a dynamic, security-focused environment.

Qualifications

• Experience leading PMO functions within complex project or programme environments.
• Strong experience in governance, assurance and project controls.
• Experience managing risks, issues, schedules, budgets and inter-project dependencies.
• Proven ability to engage, influence and communicate effectively with senior stakeholders.
• Experience delivering digital, information technology, infrastructure or transformation programmes within highly regulated environments.

• Leading PMO activities across the Data & Digital Infrastructure portfolio.
• Establishing and maintaining governance, project controls and assurance frameworks.
• Monitoring project performance, budgets, forecasts, risks and dependencies, ensuring appropriate corrective actions are implemented.
• Producing and presenting portfolio reporting to senior leaders and customers.
• Driving continuous improvement and developing PMO and project controls capability across the portfolio.

The role

As a Senior Project Manager, you’ll lead project management office activities across a complex portfolio of digital and infrastructure projects. You'll establish robust governance and project controls, provide portfolio-level visibility of performance, and ensure senior leaders have the insight they need to make informed decisions.

Day-to-day, you’ll influence strategic planning, drive continuous improvement, and support the successful delivery of programmes that contribute to national security and business performance. Alongside delivering real impact, you'll have the opportunity to further develop your leadership, stakeholder management and portfolio delivery expertise within a dynamic and supportive environment.

• Leading project management office activities across the Data & Digital Infrastructure portfolio.

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard.

Essential experience of the Senior Project Manager

• Experience leading project management office functions within complex project or programme environments.


• Strong experience in governance, assurance and project controls.


• Experience managing risks, issues, schedules, budgets and inter-project dependencies.


• Proven ability to engage, influence and communicate effectively with senior stakeholders.


• Experience delivering digital, information technology, infrastructure or transformation programmes within highly regulated environments.

Qualifications for the Senior Project Manager

Essential

• Degree, HND or equivalent professional experience.


• Association for Project Management Project Management Qualification (PMQ).


• Management qualification or equivalent leadership experience.

Desirable

• IOSH Managing Safely qualification.
