Job summary

H9 Talent Solutions are partnering with an established engineering consultancy to appoint a Senior/Lead Consultant to join its South Manchester team. The role covers leading engineering assignments across energy and power sectors, FEED through handover, and client-facing responsibilities in a senior technical capacity.

The successful candidate will be degree-qualified, with delivery experience in thermal power, energy from waste, renewables, or data centre power infrastructure, and willingness

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage engineering consultancy assignments across energy and power sectors.
• Provide technical and project management support to developers, investors and asset owners.
• Manage projects through FEED, detailed design, procurement, construction, commissioning and handover.
• Prepare and review professional technical reports, specifications and engineering documentation.
• Support development and review of P&IDs, engineering models and technical calculations.
• Provide technical input into contracts, standards and negotiations.
• Liaise with clients, contractors, suppliers and stakeholders.
• Provide technical leadership to engineers and project teams.
• Support project development, feasibility studies, and investment decisions.
• Ensure compliance with UK engineering standards and regulations.

Lead Consultant - Project Management

Location: South Manchester

Working Arrangement: Permanent | Hybrid - 2-3 days per week in the office

Travel: UK & Ireland, with occasional travel to mainland Europe

H9 Talent Solutions are exclusively partnered with an established engineering consultancy, looking to appoint an experienced Senior or Lead Consultant to join its growing team in South Manchester.

The successful candidate will be a degree-qualified engineer with significant consultancy and project management experience across the energy and power sector. Experience across thermal power generation, Energy from Waste, renewable energy and/or data centre power infrastructure would be highly relevant.

This is a senior technical and client-facing position, supporting projects from early-stage development and FEED through procurement, construction, commissioning and final takeover.

Role & Responsibilities

• Lead and manage engineering consultancy assignments across the energy and power sectors.
• Provide technical and project management support to developers, investors and asset owners.
• Manage projects through FEED, detailed design, procurement, construction, commissioning and handover.
• Prepare and review professional technical reports, specifications and engineering documentation.
• Support the development and review of P&IDs, engineering models and technical calculations.
• Provide technical input into contracts, contractual standards and negotiations.
• Liaise directly with clients, contractors, suppliers and other project stakeholders.
• Provide technical leadership and guidance to engineers and project teams.
• Support project development, feasibility studies and investment decisions.
• Ensure projects comply with relevant UK engineering standards and regulations.
• Apply strong understanding of health, safety and process safety principles.
• Identify technical and project risks and support the development of appropriate mitigation strategies.
• Contribute to business development and the development of long-term client relationships.

Skills & Qualifications

Degree qualified in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline.

Significant experience working within an engineering consultancy or project environment.

Strong project management experience within one or more of:

• Thermal power generation
• Energy from Waste
• Renewable energy
• Data centre power infrastructure
• Other major energy infrastructure projects

• Experience across the project lifecycle, including FEED, contracts, construction, commissioning and takeover.
• Practical experience producing professional engineering reports and technical documentation.
• Strong understanding of P&IDs, engineering software/models and technical standards.
• Knowledge of relevant UK engineering standards and legislation.
• Good understanding of health, safety and process safety principles.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.
• Confident dealing directly with clients and senior project stakeholders.
• Full right to work in the UK with no visa restrictions.
• Willingness to work from a South Manchester office 2-3 days per week.
• Willingness to travel throughout the UK and Ireland, with occasional European travel.
