Senior Project Engineer

Location: Wrexham

Role Overview: Responsible for planning and designing the district distribution network, ensuring system stewardship, network security, and integrity. Conduct system analysis to determine load, connections, network modifications, and reinforcement requirements, aligning solutions with Asset Management policies and customer needs.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Managing the regulatory aspects of connection requests and quotations, ensuring compliance with processes and reporting requirements.
  • Defining scope, volumes, and costs to maximize value from regulatory contracts.
  • Integrating asset stewardship values through engineering principles, planning, and design to improve network integrity, safety, and longevity while minimizing costs.
  • Managing third-party connection and design approval activities within license areas.
  • Driving performance improvements through analysis of outputs, delivery, and customer feedback.
  • Applying innovative solutions in technological, procedural, or commercial aspects.
  • Producing designs aligned with costs to enable efficient delivery.
  • Building and maintaining stakeholder and customer relationships to support strategic objectives.
  • Promoting a safety culture and ensuring safety legislation compliance in all activities and designs.
  • Developing team skills through mentoring and training of less experienced members.

What you’ll bring:

  • Expertise in design standards up to 33kV.
  • Knowledge of the regulatory environment and incentive mechanisms.
  • Proficiency with network analysis modeling tools.
  • Commercial awareness to balance customer service and network efficiency.
  • Proven stakeholder and customer engagement skills.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to manage priorities using sound engineering and financial judgment.
  • Understanding of business drivers and external commercial context.
  • Operational engineering experience in a utility environment.
  • Problem-solving skills for complex challenges.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Engineering/professional qualification or equivalent experience (HNC/Degree).
  • Experience in network design at LV, HV, and EHV levels.
  • Network construction and operational experience.
  • Computer literacy.
