Imperial Recruitment Group is working with a long-established global organisation that is looking to appoint a Senior Project Engineer at their site in Sunderland.
Main Purpose:
The Senior Project Engineer is responsible for the integrity and delivery of the engineering and technical elements of work, focusing on executing project engineering tasks, ensuring scope is well defined, controlled, understood, and aligned with deliverables and safety requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Work closely with engineers across the business (technical, process, design, and project), as well as other functional managers and subcontractors, to progress deliverables and support queries.
- Maintain effective communication with the customer, providing regular engineering updates, logging, tracking, and responding to queries promptly, interpreting customer requirements, and attending customer sites.
- Ensure feedback is maintained to progress deliverables, clarify scope, and assist in identifying technical risks and responses.
- Collaborate with designers and project managers to ensure timely delivery of contracted scope and project profitability.
- Review design outputs throughout the project lifecycle to ensure they meet requirements.
- Review scope, contracts, schedules, and client specifications upon project handover and during the project lifecycle.
- Define and follow engineering budgets, highlight and manage technical risks, and ensure solutions are implemented timely.
- Ensure safety objectives and legal requirements are met.
- Create project Health & Safety and Technical Files, including Operation and Maintenance Manuals.
- Generate and maintain project specifications, data sheets, schedules, and equipment lists.
- Prepare subcontract scope of work documents, raise purchase requisitions, and manage subcontracted design.
- Conduct gap analysis on designs to ensure completeness of engineering works.
- Maintain design integrity considering safety, manufacturing, installation, operation, and maintenance.
- Provide engineering information for contract variations and manage non-conformance issues or change requests.
- Create and review documentation for CE/UKCA marking.
- Communicate lessons learned within the project and engineering teams.
- Mentor junior staff members.
Requirements:
- Hold an HNC in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- Previous experience in design and/or project engineering delivery, with effective planning skills.
- Experience with heavy engineering, bespoke technical solutions, and process plant design, including equipment like conveyors, elevators, screens, crushers, shredders, filtration, and pneumatic conveying systems within mineral, chemical, and food processing industries.
- Proficiency in 2D software drawing packages.
- Commitment to continuous improvement, accountability, and results-focused KPI management.
- Knowledge of ATEX regulations.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
