Job summary

Staffline are recruiting a Senior Project Engineer to lead capital and process projects within a regional FMCG manufacturing setting across Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire. You will manage cross-functional teams, deliver on-time and on-budget projects, and uphold engineering standards across equipment, packaging, and site services.

Reporting to the Head of Engineering, you will drive feasibility studies, supplier selection, and commissioning, while coaching engineers and contractors.

Qualifications

• Mechanical or electrical engineering background in high-volume manufacturing.
• Experience delivering automated engineering solutions in FMCG.
• Degree in Engineering or time-served with PM qualification.
• Proven leadership and stakeholder management in senior roles.
• Chartered status is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Plan and manage capital and revenue projects across factory equipment and processes.
• Drive line installations and BAU projects.
• Lead feasibility studies, equipment specs, supplier selections, commissioning.
• Report to Project Engineering Manager with autonomous project delivery.
• Coach and develop multi-functional teams.
• Liaise cross-functionally to define project scopes.
• Manage tenders and supplier selection.
• Oversee external suppliers throughout project lifecycle.
• Ensure compliance with engineering standards.

Role Responsibilities - Senior Project Engineer

• Manage the planning and implementation of capital and revenue projects, covering factory equipment, process, packing lines, site services, process engineering, as well as construction design management
• Drive line installations and BAU engineering projects
• Plan, execute and lead project activities for feasibility studies, equipment specifications, supplier selections, equipment commissioning and validation
• Reporting directly to the Project Engineering Manager, you will have complete autonomy to deliver pragmatic, value-engineered projects to cost and time specifications
• You will coach, mentor, and develop your multi-functional teams of engineers and designers/contractors
• The projects will cover factory equipment, including packaging, processing, and site activities
• Engineering Compliance Champion: Ensure all engineering activities meet industry standards
• You will lead engineering and production teams during equipment installation and start-up, supplier selection, feasibility and justification analysis, and equipment commissioning
• Liaise with departments cross-functionally to ascertain requirements and define project scopes
• Preparing specifications/briefs which will go to external suppliers for tender
• Managing tender processes, including supplier selection exercises
• Managing external suppliers throughout the project lifecycle

Qualifications & Requirements - Senior Project Engineer

• Mechanical or Electrical Engineering backgrounds will be considered, ideally in a regulated environment, from high-volume manufacturing.
• Experience developing technical engineering solutions in automated environments
• An experienced Project Engineer from FMCG manufacturing, food preferred
• Ideally, A degree in Engineering or time-served engineering qualifications with a further education qualification in project management
• High level of IT literacy (and ideally fully conversant with MS Project)
• Proven Leadership and senior stakeholder management: Significant experience in a senior engineering management role within the manufacturing FMCG-related sector
• This could include Food, Drink, Pharma and related consumer goods manufacturing, encompassing process and packaging
• Mechanical/electrical qualification or equivalent, ideally a degree, even better if you are chartered!
• 5+ years of Engineering leadership experience; with exposure to FMCG environments ideal
• Excellent People leadership skills to motivate, lead and drive projects
