Job description

Location: Portsmouth – We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements – please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role.

Salary: £50,000-£60,000 (dependent on skills and experience).

What you’ll be doing:

1. Provision of experienced financial support to Project Accounting by building and maintaining effective relationships and ensuring robust financial challenge and control.
2. Provision of accurate financial information and advice to a project or group of projects on a timely basis to enable effective decision-making.
3. Provision of financial support and advice to customers and stakeholders.
4. Supervise, maintain and operate financial systems and processes in a constantly changing environment.
5. Resolve problems to ensure development/production timescales are met across projects.
6. Provide helpline to internal and external customers.
7. Provide cover for day-to-day aspects of manager’s role.
8. Facilitate decision-making using knowledge and experience.
9. Effective liaison with other functions involved in the projects.
10. Continual improvement of procedures and working practices.
11. Assume responsibility for key areas of processes.
12. Provide advice to customers and stakeholders.
13. Effectively police project control environment.
14. Input and approve journal vouchers.
15. Coach non-finance employees on related matters.

Your skills and experiences:

• Project Accounting experience – fully qualified.
• Knowledge of MoD Accounting/Contracting requirements.
• Detailed knowledge of Project Lifecycle Management (LCM) Process.
• Business Systems experience (SAP/Budget, Planning & Consolidation).
• Finance governance requirements including financial control framework.

The Project Finance team:

The Project Finance Team plays a critical role in delivering high-quality financial oversight and support to the broader programme. The team ensures strong financial governance by implementing effective processes, conducting detailed analysis of data, and maintaining clear communication across departments. A Senior Accountant is a key member of this team, responsible for providing expert financial input and project accounting support to enhance the performance and delivery of finance operations.
