Purpose of the Role:

This is a fixed-term role, designed to address specific project needs and timelines, ensuring the successful delivery of key objectives over an 18-month period. The role will have responsibility for all technical and non-technical procurement activities related to non-F1 aspects of McLaren Racing’s business. This includes procuring bespoke and proprietary parts, managing Contracts and SLAs, and overseeing procurement activities from start to finish. Leading supply chain management, negotiations, and resolving commercial issues are essential, alongside maintaining a robust contract management process, ensuring timely deliverables, and fostering strong stakeholder relationships.

Role Dimensions:

Reporting to the Head of Procurement, this role involves:

  • Delivering cost-effective sourcing, procurement, and delivery of components and services supporting non-F1 projects.
  • Collaborating with project teams to meet strategic objectives.
  • Achieving commercial benefits, managing contracts, and developing supplier relationships.
  • Supporting the Indirect Procurement team with various tasks, maintaining a professional attitude amidst dynamic demands.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Collaborating with stakeholders to meet program plans and deadlines.
  • Managing contract scope, costs, and service delivery.
  • Developing positive Supplier Relationship Management processes.
  • Monitoring supplier performance and ensuring contractual compliance.
  • Negotiating with suppliers to meet budget and scope requirements.
  • Constructing KPI targets with suppliers and stakeholders.
  • Improving procurement processes for efficiency.
  • Maintaining a Contracts Register and managing contract renewals.
  • Supporting purchase order development and general purchasing duties.
  • Performing any additional tasks as required.

Job requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Degree in Engineering or related field; professional qualification like CIPS Level 4 or MCIPS, or substantial experience in precision engineering or high-precision manufacturing, especially in motorsport.
  • Expertise in contract construction and related documentation.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing methods for complex parts and assemblies.
  • Understanding of race car construction and modern race program operations.
  • Proven negotiation skills for large projects and contracts.
  • Strong leadership, influence, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to challenge constructively and communicate persuasively.
  • Capacity to manage multiple tasks and time effectively during peak workloads.
  • Experience in end-to-end supply chain management from quotation to delivery.
  • Knowledge of purchasing best practices and continuous improvement techniques.
