Job description

Senior Process Engineer

Thames Water | Major Projects | Hybrid/London/South East

Be part of something that truly matters.

Thames Water is on a mission to transform and modernise our wastewater infrastructure — and we're looking for a Senior Technical Assurance Engineer with a strong Process Engineering background to lead the way on some of our most ambitious Major Projects.

This isn’t just a technical role. It’s an opportunity to shape the future of wastewater treatment for millions of people, balancing cutting-edge design, sustainability, value for money, and long-term resilience.

What you’ll be doing
  • Collaborate with diverse internal stakeholders, including engineers, asset management, and operations, to shape fit-for-purpose solutions that balance innovation, value, and resilience.
  • Work extensively with and assure consultants and contractors supporting large, complex capital projects.
  • Support preliminary, outline, and detailed design phases with delivery partners.
  • Ensure compliance with legislation, regulations, policies, standards, and project requirements for safety and environmental standards.
  • Contribute to Thames Water’s ‘triple zero’ vision by conducting audits and reviewing Risk Assessments, Method Statements, and Safe Systems of Work.
  • Identify and support management of delivery risks and opportunities.
  • Assist in creating Project Briefs and responding to RFIs.
  • Train and mentor team members in treatment processes, procedures, and compliance to ensure effective operations.

This role is based on a Hybrid basis at Clearwater Court in Reading, requiring on-site presence three days a week.

Working hours: 36 hours/week, Monday to Friday

What you should bring to the role
  • Bachelor’s, preferably Master’s, degree or other appropriate technical qualification in Chemical Engineering or related field.
  • Recognition by a relevant professional institution as a chartered member or actively working towards it.
  • Several years of relevant experience in the water industry, especially in designing water and wastewater treatment plants.
  • Understanding of the water industry environment and regulatory compliance.
  • Knowledge of Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM 2015).
  • Technical expertise within your discipline and ability to collaborate across engineering disciplines.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.
What’s in it for you?
  • Competitive salary from £52,000 to £62,000 per annum, depending on experience.
  • 26 days holiday, increasing to 30 with service, plus bank holidays.
  • Contributory pension scheme (up to 12%) with 2x employee contribution.
  • Annual Personal Medical Assessments.
  • Access to benefits hub offering discounts and wellbeing support.
