Job summary

WSP is seeking a Senior or Principal Traffic Signals Design Engineer to join the Liveable Places team across the UK. The role covers local and national delivery, leading day-to-day technical work in traffic signal design, LI and MOVA systems, and multi-disciplinary projects.

You will manage client relationships, coordinate inputs, and oversee junior engineers while ensuring safety, quality, and regulatory compliance throughout project lifecycles. Hybrid working is available.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of traffic signal design across project lifecycle.
• Experience leading design multidisciplinary teams.
• Experience with contract documents or PWCs.
• Ability to use design outputs in LinSig, Civils 3D, KeySignals.
• Strong client and stakeholder management.
• Understanding design codes (DMRB, MfS, TSRGD).

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day technical delivery of highway consultancy services.
• Manage traffic signal projects and coordinate inputs.
• Develop trusted client relationships and manage expectations.
• Lead and review project work.
• Support others to maximize contributions.
• Prepare fee proposals and budgets.
• Deliver discrete and overall project solutions.
• Lead junior staff on traffic signal design packages.
• Ensure health, safety, environmental compliance and QA.
