Job summary

Arden White Aerospace and Aviation Recruitment are working with a leading global engineering organisation to hire a Senior Principal Software Engineer to join their growing embedded software team in the UK.

You will lead software architecture for real-time embedded systems, design and develop high integrity software in C/C++, and ensure DO-178C compliance across the lifecycle, mentoring engineers and driving technical excellence.

Qualifications

• Significant commercial experience developing embedded software using C/C++.
• Strong background in real time embedded systems.
• Experience defining software architecture and technical strategy.
• Experience developing software within safety critical or highly regulated environments.
• Strong knowledge of DO-178C and software certification lifecycle.
• Experience designing deterministic and fault tolerant software systems.
• Previous leadership, mentoring or engineering management experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead the software architecture and technical direction for complex embedded software projects.
• Design, develop and maintain real time embedded software using C/C++.
• Develop software for advanced control and actuation systems.
• Collaborate with systems, hardware and verification engineers for seamless integration.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced software engineering professional to take a senior technical leadership role, developing advanced embedded software for complex, safety critical engineering applications. You will play a key role in defining software architecture, influencing technical strategy and leading the development of high integrity software solutions used within highly regulated environments.

Working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, you will help deliver robust, reliable software while mentoring engineers and driving technical excellence throughout the software development lifecycle.

Person Specification

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:

• Significant commercial experience developing embedded software using C/C++.
• Strong background in real time embedded systems.
• Proven experience defining software architecture and technical strategy.
• Experience developing software within safety critical or highly regulated engineering environments.
• Strong understanding of DO-178C and the software certification lifecycle.
• Experience designing deterministic and fault tolerant software systems.
• Previous technical leadership, mentoring or engineering management experience.
• Strong knowledge of software verification and validation methodologies.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering or a related engineering discipline.

Desirable Experience

• Experience with model based development using MATLAB/Simulink.
• Knowledge of ARINC standards or MIL-STD communication protocols.
• Experience working on advanced control systems, embedded electronics or high integrity engineering applications.
