Job summary

ACTEMIUM Design UK is recruiting a Senior / Principal Mechanical Engineer to author Mechanical Design Substantiation Reports underpinning process systems for a key defence project. The role is initially seconded to the client. You will review safety case documentation, liaise with designers and vendors, interrogate schedules, and ensure SSC-based claims are robust. Chartered engineer status preferred.

Qualifications

• Experience authoring design substantiation documents and safety case involvement for highly regulated industries.
• Strong written and verbal communication, with report writing and presentation skills.
• Familiar with safety case methodologies and nuclear safety frameworks.
• Ability to interrogate schedules and verify claims across SSC elements (Systems, Structures & Components).

Responsibilities

• Authoring nuclear substantiation documentation, including Design Substantiation Reports (DSR).
• Reviewing safety case documentation and identifying potential shortfalls in the design.
• Liaising with internal and external designers and equipment vendors to gather information.
• Interrogating the Engineering Schedule and evidencing SSC-based claims in documentation.
• Interfacing with Human Factors, Fire Safety, Criticality, Radiological teams, and the client Technical Authority.
