This is an analytic leadership role responsible for actuarial support for the Marine and Aviation business unit.

Travelers boasts a strong actuarial community involved in pricing, portfolio management, capital modelling, and R&D. We are creating new opportunities for skilled Actuaries to shape our future.

As a Business Unit Actuary, you will handle case pricing, business planning, pricing models, and portfolio management for Marine and Aviation. You should be an experienced (preferably qualified) Actuary with strong London Market experience, mentoring junior team members and supporting professional development.

Travelers Europe offers flexible hybrid work arrangements: three days in-office and two days remote, subject to policy changes.

What Will You Do?
  • Price large risks based on historical data.
  • Engage in business planning, estimating loss ratios, building profit and loss models, and recommending underwriting actions.
  • Manage exposure-based pricing models and collaborate with underwriters to build confidence in these models.
  • Segment books of business to monitor profitability and guide underwriters.
  • Utilize R and Python for data analysis.
  • Build relationships with underwriters to act on actuarial insights.
  • Improve systems and processes for efficiency.
  • Lead and review analytical work, translating business needs into solutions.
  • Support European and enterprise initiatives within scope.
Strategy
  • Assess and influence strategic options, communicate with senior leaders.
  • Complete strategic initiatives and projects effectively.
  • Identify process improvements and innovations.
  • Lead unit-specific and cross-unit initiatives as appropriate.
Talent
  • Manage talent acquisition, retention, and development.
  • Implement talent development and performance goals.
  • Mentor less experienced staff.
  • Support training and recruitment efforts.
Candidate Requirements
  • Degree in STEM (2:1 or above).
  • Programming skills in R/Python or similar.
  • Preferably a qualified actuary.
  • Strong insurance industry knowledge, especially London Market.
  • Proven analytical and statistical skills.
  • Management experience preferred.
  • Excellent communication and relationship skills.
  • Ability to simplify complex information.
Must Have
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Quantitative analysis experience.
