Job summary

Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service seeks an experienced Prevention Manager to lead the Prevention and Education Department, reporting to the Head of Prevention and Education. You will translate strategic priorities into effective plans, manage resources, and lead cross-departmental coordination to deliver high-quality services.

The role requires oversight of risk, performance and compliance, and the ability to report to boards and senior leadership. Evening/weekend work may be required.

Qualifications

• Senior leadership experience in prevention and education
• Ability to translate strategic priorities into plans and measurable outcomes
• Experience leading cross-departmental coordination
• Strong risk, compliance and quality assurance knowledge
• Experience with workforce planning and succession planning
• Ability to analyse complex information and prepare high-quality reports
• Willingness to work evenings and weekends when required

Responsibilities

• Provide senior oversight of departmental activity, ensuring priorities, resources and workloads are managed effectively.
• Translate departmental objectives into clear plans, milestones and performance measures aligned with corporate priorities and risk management plans.
• Lead cross-departmental coordination and support workforce planning, role development, training needs, succession planning and departmental resilience.
• Develop and maintain effective partnerships and represent the department at relevant boards, working groups, partnership meetings and corporate forums.
• Provide senior advice and assurance on risk, performance, compliance, quality assurance and improvement activity.
• Collate and analyse complex information, monitor departmental standards and systems, and prepare high-quality management reports.
• Manage people and performance through clear objectives, timely reviews and structured development, while promoting continuous improvement and value for money.
