Job summary

Prime Appointments Ltd in Brentwood is seeking an experienced Toolmaker (Press Toolmaker) to join a family-run engineering team and contribute to bespoke hinges and metal components. The role involves designing, manufacturing, and repairing tooling, reading drawings and setting up punches, dies, jigs and fixtures to support production.

You will troubleshoot tooling, maintain quality records and work to tight tolerances, with hydraulics and pneumatics knowledge being an advantage.

Qualifications

• Recognised toolmaking apprenticeship.
• Proven experience in press toolmaking.
• Competent in conventional machining and engineering drawing interpretation.
• Strong fault-finding, problem-solving and quality inspection skills.
• Knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics is advantageous.
• Self-motivated, organised and able to work independently or within a small team.

Responsibilities

• Design and manufacture piercing and forming tools, punches, dies, jigs and fixtures.
• Maintain and repair tooling to minimise production downtime.
• Operate universal mills, centre lathes and surface grinders.
• Read engineering drawings and work to specified tolerances.
• Diagnose machinery faults and support production planning.
• Inspect components, maintain quality records and implement improvements.
• Develop tooling solutions and document manufacturing processes.
