Job summary

SRG is seeking a Senior Research Scientist 1 – Process Chemistry (Polymers) in Sedgefield for an experienced synthetic chemist to lead polymer and process development within a dynamic team. The role focuses on designing, developing, and scaling chemical processes beyond bench scale, with collaboration across customer and R&D programs.

Qualifications

• Degree/MSc/PhD in Chemistry or related discipline with industrial/process chemistry exposure.
• Experience in polymer chemistry, polymerisation and scale-up.
• Strong experimental design, data interpretation and reporting skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical delivery across small to medium process chemistry projects.
• Design, plan and execute experiments for polymer and process development.
• Develop and optimise polymerisation reactions and synthetic routes.
• Support scale-up from lab development to pilot scale.
• Work safely with reactive and hazardous chemistries and conduct risk assessments.
• Produce high-quality technical reports and project documentation.
• Act as a technical expert within project teams and guide junior scientists.
• Collaborate with customers, business development and external partners.
