Job summary

SRG in Sedgefield is seeking a Research Scientist 2 - Process Chemistry (Sustainable Materials) to join a growing team. You will apply fundamental chemistry across diverse projects, supporting materials development, process optimisation, battery materials and analytical testing.

The role requires practical laboratory expertise, the ability to work without a clearly defined path, and a collaborative approach to advance sustainable materials programmes.

Qualifications

• 2-5 years of relevant laboratory, industrial or research experience.
• Excellent laboratory technique and commitment to high-quality results.
• Experience documenting, analysing and reporting technical data.
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing project requirements.
• Collaborative approach to support colleagues across technical areas.

Responsibilities

• Plan, conduct and report laboratory-based experimental work.
• Support development, optimisation and scale-up of chemical processes and materials.
• Carry out bench-scale chemistry with high precision and detail.
• Support projects in sustainable materials, battery materials, polymers and related technologies.
• Perform synthesis, characterisation, formulation and analytical testing activities.
• Analyse and interpret experimental data to support decisions.
• Maintain accurate laboratory records and technical reports.
• Contribute to establishing new laboratory capabilities and facilities.
• Work across multiple projects and adapt to changing priorities.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary scientists, engineers and external partners.
• Ensure SHE compliance at all times.
