Job summary

Actemium Automation Warrington is seeking a Senior Software Controls Engineer to lead development of control software for industrial systems. This hands-on role combines software design, PLC/SCADA integration, and technical leadership across project teams and clients.

You’ll mentor junior engineers, drive best practices, and ensure robust, safe solutions that meet requirements. A UK driving licence and willingness to travel are preferred.

Qualifications

• 7+ years in control software engineering with PLC/SCADA.
• Experience with Siemens TIA Portal or Rockwell Studio 5000.
• Knowledge of PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, Modbus, OPC/UA.
• Experience with on-site commissioning and diagnostics.
• Strong documentation and testing procedures.

Responsibilities

• Lead software design for PLC/SCADA/HMI systems across projects.
• Develop architecture, standards and reusable libraries.
• Create and maintain technical documentation and test plans.
• Support factory acceptance testing and site commissioning.
• Provide technical leadership and mentor junior engineers.
• Drive continuous improvement in engineering practices and reviews.
• Engage with clients to present solutions and resolve issues.
