Job summary

SR2 | Socially Responsible Recruitment, in London, is seeking a Senior Platform Engineer to lead the build of a modern cloud platform on GCP with Kubernetes at its core. This is a hybrid role with two days per week in the London office.

You will own infrastructure from design to production, drive IaC initiatives with Terraform, and raise the bar for CI/CD, observability and reliability across a data-intensive product used in regulated environments.

Qualifications

• Deep, production-level GCP experience.
• Strong Kubernetes knowledge, including building Kubernetes platforms or clusters from the ground up.
• Experience building end-to-end platform or large infrastructure environments.
• Solid foundations in software engineering, preferably in Python or Go.

Senior Platform Engineer | GCP & Kubernetes | Up to £125,000 + Equity

London | Hybrid - 2 days onsite

SR2 is partnering with a high-growth technology business that is investing heavily in its engineering and platform capability following a significant period of growth.

They’re building a complex, data-intensive software platform used by organisations operating in high-trust and regulated environments, and they’re now looking for an exceptional Senior Platform Engineer to join a small, highly technical team.

This is a genuinely hands-on role where you’ll have the opportunity to build, own and improve core platform infrastructure rather than simply maintain an environment that already exists.

What you’ll be doing

• Build and evolve a modern cloud platform supporting a rapidly scaling product.
• Take ownership of infrastructure from initial design through to production.
• Design and build Kubernetes environments rather than simply administer existing managed clusters.
• Become a key source of GCP expertise within the engineering team.
• Build infrastructure and automation using Terraform and modern Infrastructure-as-Code practices.
• Improve CI/CD, deployment automation, observability, reliability and developer experience.
• Build tooling that removes manual engineering work and improves delivery speed.
• Work with modern AI-assisted and agentic engineering tooling.
• Work closely with senior technical leadership on difficult infrastructure and architecture problems.
• Have real ownership over technical decisions and how the platform develops.

What we're looking for

• Deep, production-level GCP experience.
• Strong Kubernetes knowledge, including experience building Kubernetes platforms or clusters from the ground up.
• Evidence that you've personally built a platform or significant infrastructure environment end-to-end.
• Strong software engineering foundations, ideally within Python or Go environments.
• Experience within a startup, scale-up or a highly autonomous engineering team.
• Strong knowledge of cloud architecture, networking, observability, reliability and production systems.
• Interest or experience in agentic engineering and AI-assisted development tooling.
• High levels of technical ownership.
• Clear, concise communication and the ability to explain complex technical decisions simply.

This probably isn't right if

• Your Kubernetes experience is primarily using or administering managed services.
• Your GCP exposure has been limited compared with AWS or Azure.
• You've mainly maintained existing platforms rather than designed and built them.
• You're looking for a role where architecture and infrastructure decisions are made elsewhere.
