Job summary

American Society of Civil Engineers is seeking a Senior Planning Engineer to lead the planning function on a major civil infrastructure programme. The role requires managing planners, directing programme development and ensuring robust governance and reporting.

The position involves NEC contract familiarity, regular travel to support project leadership, clients and subcontractors, and a strong emphasis on cost, quality and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related discipline.
• Significant planning experience within civil engineering, infrastructure or major construction projects.
• Proven track record leading planning functions on complex, multidisciplinary schemes.
• Advanced proficiency in Primavera P6, with strong capability in developing and managing detailed programmes.
• Strong understanding of project management, critical path analysis, risk identification and project controls.
• Experience preparing planning reports, submissions and progress documentation for senior leadership and regulatory bodies.
• Familiarity with NEC contracts and associated planning, change management and reporting requirements.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with clients, consultants, utilities, government authorities and subcontractors.
• Strong analytical, organisational and problem-solving abilities

Responsibilities

• Plan, lead and oversee the planning function across the project portfolio.
• Ensure consistent planning standards, methodologies and controls.
• Review and approve schedules produced by the planning team.
• Coordinate portfolio development and control to align with client priorities and regulatory requirements.
• Provide planning input into commercial reports, risk assessments and change notifications.
• Ensure NEC contract requirements for programme submission and reporting are met.
• Prepare and present planning reports and updates for senior management.
• Monitor progress and environmental considerations, implementing corrective actions.
• Contribute to GIS mapping and planning databases development.
• Drive continuous improvement across planning processes and stakeholder engagement.
• Collaborate with public bodies, authorities, utilities, consultants and contractors to ensure regulatory alignment.
