Job summary

Chip UK is seeking a Senior QA Engineer specializing in Performance & Scalability to own performance across 30+ microservices and legacy dependencies. You will define pass/fail thresholds, embed performance in delivery plans, and lead performance initiatives beyond gate testing.

You’ll design tests, automate, and monitor across CI/CD, with hands-on experience in k6, Datadog, Grafana, and AWS. This role emphasizes ownership, early risk detection, and impactful, scalable testing practices.

Qualifications

5+ years in performance engineering, owning performance across complex, modern systems.
Hands-on load testing, performance modeling, running load, stress, soak and spike tests, and interpreting results meaningfully.
K6 or similar - You have real, hands-on depth with k6 for building and running performance tests.
Monitoring and observability know-how. You’re comfortable with tools like Datadog, Grafana, CloudWatch or similar.
Strong programming ability. You’re extremely strong in at least one language. We use TypeScript across our stack; if your fundamentals are solid in another language, you’ll pick it up fast.
Microservices and distributed systems. You understand service-oriented architectures, dependencies, and testing a service in isolation.
CI/CD fluency - You’ve integrated performance testing into CI/CD pipelines and understand how to keep feedback fast and signals reliable. AWS infrastructure is strongly preferred.
Strong communication and presence. You participate fully in agile ceremonies and cross-team conversations.

Responsibilities

Own Performance from Day One - embed performance thinking in the delivery plan before code is written.
Define What Good Looks Like - own thresholds, metrics, and SLOs that govern pass/fail and automate decision signals.
Test Services in Isolation, at Production Scale - design performance tests for individual services with realistic production traffic.
Lead Performance in CI - integrate performance testing into CI/CD and keep fail-fast signals trustworthy.
Build Reusable, Scalable Assets - create code-based, reusable performance tests and data seeding for repeatable runs.
Diagnose, Don’t Just Report - root-cause regressions via logs and traces.
Reach Out and Drive Outcomes - collaborate with engineering, platform, product to turn findings into fixes.
Influence Decisions - raise performance risks early and push for scalable designs.
