Job summary

Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service is seeking a knowledgeable Pensions Advisor to support pension services across FPS and LGPS. You will advise managers, employees and pensioners, interpret legislation and ensure regulatory compliance, while collaborating with Payroll, Pension Manager and external bodies.

You will handle complex data, contribute to governance, and travel as required. A strong emphasis on confidentiality, accuracy and high service standards is essential.

Qualifications

• Substantial experience in a pension-related role with knowledge of FPS/LGPS.
• Ability to interpret complex pension and tax legislation.
• Experience advising a range of stakeholders and handling confidential information.
• Excellent organisational, analytical and communication skills.
• Minimum five GCSEs including English and Maths at grade C/4 or above.

Responsibilities

• Act as first point of contact for pension administration provider and monitor service delivery.
• Provide professional advice to managers, employees, pensioners and scheme members on pension matters.
• Liaise with external organisations (LGA, SAB, pension administrators, auditors) and represent the organisation at pension forums.
• Coordinate transfer of pension-related data between stakeholders.
• Manage ill-health retirements and appeals for FPS and LGPS members.
• Oversee Internal Dispute Resolution Procedure (IDRP).
• Monitor legislative developments and assist with pension scheme changes and compliance.
