Job summary

Solus, owned by Aviva, is seeking a Payroll Administrator to oversee monthly payroll and weekly expense runs. The role involves ensuring HMRC compliance, maintaining payroll controls, and improving efficiency across the department.

You will work with a small team of payroll professionals to manage pensions, benefits, and year-end reporting, while providing strong stakeholder support and maintaining accurate documentation.

Qualifications

• Understanding of payroll principles and legislation
• Proficient in Word/Excel/Outlook
• Significant experience in an SME environment
• Broad experience in Payroll department activities (leaver calculations, holiday pay, SMP)
• Experience preparing payroll journals and reconciliation
• Previous line management experience
• Strong communication at all levels
• Proactive with ability to work on own initiative
• Good analytical and decision-making skills
• Excellent time management and organisation skills
• Accurate documenting and attention to detail

Responsibilities

• Manage payroll and expenses processes with accurate results within deadlines
• Assist with P11d/payroll benefits and PSA processes per HMRC deadlines
• Process company pension schemes ensuring auto-enrolment compliance
• Assist with gender pay reporting
• Support annual audit with information and explanations
• Ensure payroll processes are mapped, documented and updated
• Understand and meet internal and external customer needs
• Communicate effectively and be accessible to customers
• Support team during staff shortages or peak periods
• Analyze and report payroll data
• Audit payroll to satisfy government regulations
• Develop and refine payroll procedures
