Job summary

Portfolio Group is seeking a Senior Payroll Administrator for a temporary-to-permanent role in Exeter. You will manage a high-volume payroll operation, handling roughly 1,000 payrolls weekly, including subcontractor payrolls and PAYE, with strong emphasis on accurate data and PAYE compliance.

You will supervise day-to-day workload, ensure deadlines are met, and address payroll queries in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• PAYE experience is essential.
• Strong Excel skills and ability to manage large volumes of timesheets.
• Experience with Merit Payroll or MS Dynamics 365 Business Central is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day payroll workload and ensure deadlines are met.
• Manage around 1,000 payrolls weekly (75% subcontractor via Umbrella/Ltd Co, 25% PAYE).
• Handle client billing through Merit Payroll and collaborate with the Finance and Payroll Manager and 4 Payroll Assistants.

Senior Payroll Administrator | Temp to Perm | £16 – £18 ph | Exeter

We are currently recruiting for a Senior Payroll Administrator for a Temp to Perm opportunity, and the appropriate candidate must be available and ready to start ASAP.

• They currently operate their Payrolls through Merit Payroll (only beneficial not essential) however they are moving a large proportion to Microsoft Business Central in the new year.
• aprox 1000 candidate payrolls on a weekly cycle. 75% of these are subcontractor payrolls, processed to Umbrella Co’s or Ltd Co’s and 25% PAYE
• Timesheets received in many formats, manual / excel / email etc – strong excel skills required
• Merit is a ‘pay and bill’ software, so successful candidate would also be responsible for client billing
• PAYE experience is essential
• Role will not have direct line reports but will be responsible for the day-to-day supervision of workload, ensuring deadlines are met and queries are responded to.
• Reports in to Finance and Payroll Manager and Team has 4 additional Payroll Assistants
• It is a very fast paced environment due to volume of timesheets and banking deadlines etc and would suggest the individual would need to be confident in their abilities.
• 8:45 – 5:15 with 30mins lunch (40 hours week). These hours can be flexible to accommodate school run’s etc – we have staff starting earlier or finishing later
