Job summary

Sompo is recruiting an experienced Underwriter, P&C Middle Market to join our London underwriting team. The role focuses on evaluating new and renewal submissions, pricing coverages, and maintaining profitable relationships across selected industry verticals.

You will work with brokers to develop a robust portfolio while upholding risk governance and underwriting guidelines. A minimum of five years in P&C underwriting is expected, with an undergraduate or advanced degree in Insurance preferred.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate, Insurance or advanced degree preferred.
• At least 5 years of P&C underwriting experience.
• Established relationships with retail producers.
• Strong negotiation and communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Responsibilities

• Prioritization and evaluation of new and renewal submissions to identify opportunities for profit.
• Price and analyze coverage, structure and exposures on individual risks.
• Set terms and conditions per underwriting strategy to quote qualified risks.
• Attend client/broker meetings and other engagements as applicable.
• Exercise underwriting pricing and discipline to meet profitability goals.
• Expand portfolio by developing existing relationships and new clients.
• Support a risk-aware, governance-driven culture with proactive monitoring and escalation.
• Complete underwriting referrals for risks outside authority for higher-level approval.
