Job summary

Salt Search is recruiting a Senior Oracle DBA to support a UK central government department from Blackpool or Newcastle. The role is hybrid, three days on-site, with BPSS vetting and Inside IR35.

You will design, implement and operate Oracle database infrastructure across on-premises and cloud, ensuring high availability and regulatory compliance. You will lead engineers, manage incidents, and collaborate with senior stakeholders to deliver secure, cost-effective data services and migrations in

Qualifications

• Extensive experience administering Oracle RDBMS 11.2–23ai.
• Hands-on Oracle RAC (ASM, AFD, HANFS, TAF).
• Linux and AIX environments experience.
• RMAN backup/recovery expertise.
• Oracle Data Guard setup/configuration.
• OEM/OCI management experience.
• Proven patching and upgrades delivery.
• Experience with highly available mission-critical databases.
• Knowledge of data migration tools: Data Pump, GoldenGate, ZDM.
• Experience with Exadata and OCI services.

Responsibilities

• Lead infrastructure services aligned with departmental strategy and value-for-money objectives.
• Design, develop, support and improve Oracle database infrastructure for mission-critical services.
• Deliver technical improvements to advance data platform capabilities in Oracle and public clouds.
• Lead Senior Engineers, provide guidance and resolve complex issues.
• Act as major incident manager and incident escalation point.
• Maintain relationships with suppliers to meet best practices and contractual requirements.
• Develop and troubleshoot Infrastructure as Code with Terraform and Ansible.
• Implement security controls, encryption, and authentication across databases and cloud environments.
• Support migrations, including testing, patching, upgrades, backup and recovery.
• Maintain risk registers and mitigation plans; advise on technology choices.
