Job summary

AVEVA in Cambridge is seeking a Senior Optimisation Developer with a strong mathematical background for industrial optimisation and numerical modelling work. This hands-on role sits in the USC Optimisation team, tackling complex problems in refinery planning and performance improvement.

You will contribute to the design, implementation and testing of advanced software, lead technical workstreams over time and mentor peers, with hybrid working and opportunities for technical leadership.

Qualifications

Postgraduate qualification (MSc, PhD, or equivalent).
Proven programming ability in at least one language (e.g., C++, C, C#, Fortran).
Experience in numerical modelling or mathematically intensive software development.
Ability to lead projects or technical workstreams, even without formal leadership.

Responsibilities

Contribute to design, implementation, maintenance and improvement of optimisation software.
Investigate complex mathematical and software engineering problems and drive to resolution.
Own large work items and break them into manageable tasks with minimal supervision.
Work within legacy codebase while improving maintainability and performance.
Provide guidance and coaching to less experienced developers.
