Salary range: £32, 500 - £37,500 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights

Location: London Broadcasting House Up to 5 days a week in the office (minimum 4 days in the office 35 hours a week)

Job introduction


Reporting to a Team Leader, the Senior Operations Technician will be a part of a wider team of highly skilled engineers and specialists. The role is part of a shift-working team ensuring operational workflows required by live services are maintained. A Senior Operations Technician (SOT) undertakes a defined support processes within a workflow , resolves issues or escalates following a defined process within the ITIL Framework. S/he will also have Operations Technicians and Apprentices they will need to support and provide initial induction training to new joiners to the team.

Knowledge of all relevant H&S directives and regulations and complying with them is key when working in any situation, particularly in an engineering environment. Being a live TV, Radio & Online broadcaster, fault diagnosis and resolving technical issues in quickest possible time is standard practice. The challenge is to keep essential broadcasts on air while solutions are implemented seamlessly, unnoticed by our audiences.

90 minutes face to face technical and value based interview and fault find exercise (45 mins + 45 mins)

Main responsibilities


• Comply with Health and Safety at work act (HASAW) to ensure safety at work for yourself and others
• Understand operational workflows to respond quickly and efficiently to faults and other service requests to Audio Visual systems made by users via the Incident Management System
• Diagnose faults and implement optimum solutions and/or work-arounds to keep services continuing
• Accurate logging of activities, updating logs with sufficient yet concise information and communicating with team, other teams and end users as and escalate when appropriate
• Utilise “downtime” to ensure all off-line activities such as repairs, refurbishments, admin tasks, training, etc. are carried out and there is no back-log
• Monitor stock levels of spares and equipment, informing line manager as and when stocks need to be replenished
• Provide feedback on team and individual performance to line manager in order to ensure constant improvement of team work output as well as team dynamics
• To be able to work autonomously, and appreciate team dynamics to achieve satisfactory outcomes for customers/users.

We expect the right candidate to have the following key knowledge, experience, skills, attitudes as well as potential for development.

• Demonstrable experience of working in a safe manner and complying with HASAW regulations
• Experience in audio-visual systems, general electronics, good cable management, fault finding and problem solving. We encourage creativity, but not at the expense of practicality.
• Strong interpersonal skills conducive for good team dynamics and interacting with customers and stakeholders
• Basic IT skills, computer literacy and the ability to learn new software applications required for the role
• Commitment to following the ITIL Framework, using the service management tool. Generally logging incidents and work orders, updating work completed and co-ordinating with other support teams.
• · Passion for enhancing skills, learning new skills as required and completing mandatory training
