Job summary

Hamilton Barnes is recruiting for a Principal Engineer to act as designated Technical Authority at a major nuclear infrastructure site in Somerset. The role requires authority to approve designs, deviations, system acceptance and test strategies, with deep radio/wireless/DAS/RF over fibre expertise and DMR Tier III experience.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience leading an operational engineering, maintenance, technical service, or critical infrastructure team.
• Customer-facing service delivery background with day-to-day management of commitments, priorities, and escalations.
• Workforce planning, resource allocation, performance management, and competence development experience.
• Experience coordinating incidents, service restoration, and operational risk management.
• Working knowledge of RAMS, safe systems of work, WAF, permit-to-work, or comparable arrangements.
• Experience managing subcontractors or third-party suppliers in an operational site environment.
• Commercial awareness including scope control, resource forecasting, variation identification, and cost visibility.
• Full UK driving licence and ability to meet nuclear site access requirements.

Responsibilities

• Serving as the senior day-to-day operational representative on site and leading the resident team.
• Owning operational performance, workforce deployment, work prioritisation, and delivery readiness.
• Acting as the primary customer-facing contact for operational delivery, service performance, and escalations.
• Chairing daily coordination reviews and weekly and monthly operational meetings.
• Managing operational risks, incidents, service continuity, and recovery coordination.
• Coordinating subcontractors and suppliers engaged in site delivery within approved arrangements.
• Maintaining an integrated forward operational plan covering activity, resources, access, outages, WAFs, and dependencies.
• Producing a monthly operational performance report.
• Providing out of hours escalation point of contact coverage.
