Job summary
Queen Alexandra Charity (QAC) in Birmingham is seeking a Senior Reactive Maintenance Operative for a full-time, on-site post. You will respond to maintenance requests, diagnose faults, and carry out repairs across plumbing, electrical, joinery and building fabric to keep facilities safe and reliable.
The role supports preventive maintenance, conducts routine checks, and ensures health and safety compliance.
Qualifications
- Strong maintenance and repair across building and facilities
- Experience with equipment maintenance and safe operation of tools and systems
- Preventive maintenance planning and servicing to reduce downtime
- Troubleshooting faults and implementing safe solutions
- Vocational qualification in building/mechanical/electrical discipline (NVQ/City & Guilds)
- Good understanding of health and safety regulations and risk assessments
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks with clear communication
- Experience in education, care or charity environment and accessibility awareness
Responsibilities
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests and diagnose faults across disciplines
- Carry out repairs to building fabric, plumbing, electrical, joinery as required
- Support preventive maintenance schedules and routine checks
- Coordinate with internal teams and external contractors
- Prioritise workloads and keep accurate work records
- Maintain accessible, well-presented environments for students and residents
- Occasionally work out-of-hours or participate in on-call rota for urgent issues
