Job summary

Priory is recruiting a senior occupational therapy assistant to join our Allied Health Professionals and Psychology team at Stockton Hall. You will support qualified OTs and contribute to developing vocational and educational programmes for patients, within a medium secure hospital setting.

You will drive the growth of real work opportunities on site and in the community, implementing a new educational provision and delivering trauma-informed, meaningful activities that promote emotional safety

Qualifications

• Experience in a clinical or therapeutic setting.
• Ability to build positive, trusting relationships with patients and colleagues.
• Proactive and compassionate attitude in a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Update clinical records and computerised systems as directed by the Occupational Therapist.
• Record and report patient involvement; refer unusual events to senior staff.
• Demonstrate compassion for patients and their situation.
• Be proactive, enthusiastic and encouraging with staff and patients; foster group activities.
• Propose ideas to enhance patient experience based on feedback from OT sessions.
• Ensure services provide good value for money and support site aims.
• Work with patients to increase sense of purpose through life skills and meaningful activities.

Description

We are looking to recruit a highly motivated senior occupational therapy assistant to join our team based at Stockton Hall. The post holder will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team supporting qualified occupational therapists with a specific focus on the development of our vocational and educational programme for patients.

What you'll be doing

Working within a medium secure hospital, you will lead the growth of real work opportunities that are available for our patients, both on site and in the community, as well as implement a brand new educational provision. Using a trauma-informed approach, you will shape how we deliver meaningful activities, training, and employment opportunities that recognize the impact of their past experiences and promote emotional safety.

You will be part of a compassionate team who are committed to our patient’s wellbeing and recovery. You will play a key part in their recovery by helping individuals build independence and confidence through the acquisition and maintenance of essential life skills, enabling meaningful participation in work/educational focused activities.

Core responsibilities

• Able to effectively and accurately update clinical records and computerised information systems as directed by the Occupational Therapist in a timely manner.
• Record and report patient’s involvement. Ensuring any unusual physical, mental or emotional occurrences are promptly referred to senior staff and documented in an appropriate manner.
• Having compassion for the patients and their situation.
• Being proactive, enthusiastic and encouraging with staff and patients, encouraging interactions within groups and activities.
• Propose new ideas for delivery to further enhance patient experience following feedback gained through community groups and OT sessions/guidance.
• Ensures the services and support provided offers good value for money and supports the overall aim of the site.
• Working with patients to increase their sense of purpose and value through life skills.

What you’ll bring to the role

Essential for the role – Senior OT Assistant

Candidates must have GCSEs or O-Levels (grades A–C), a relevant NVQ Level 2 qualification, or equivalent experience.

You will be a creative individual who has experience working in a clinical or therapeutic setting and be confident in building positive, trusting relationships with patients and colleagues alike. You will act as a positive role model promoting the value of occupation, as well as upholding the values of the Priory Group.
