Job summary

The Sun in the United Kingdom is seeking a senior production editor to lead daily layout and visual storytelling for Scotland’s No. 1 newsbrand.

You will translate digital ambition into flawless print, manage the flatplan and ensure high-impact pages under tight deadlines. You will collaborate with sub-editing, commercial teams and the Head of Content to optimise online and print outcomes while maintaining IPSO standards and strict copyflow timings.

Qualifications

• Senior production experience in a fast-paced national or major regional press with exposure to digital publishing and video production.
• Expert knowledge of print production software (InDesign, Methode) and practical understanding of flatplanning, copy-fitting and ad-clash management.
• Strong headline writing, page design and eye for identifying high-risk stories under deadline pressure.
• Knowledge of the Scottish media landscape, legal system, culture and IPSO Editors' Code of Practice.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with sub-editing and production desks to design visually striking pages and craft headlines under tight deadlines.
• Revise pages for publication, checking tone, layout and headlines reflect the strongest newsline while meeting copyflow timings.
• Control the daily flatplan to ensure a dynamic, high-impact flow of news, features and sport.
• Work with commercial and advertising teams to position ad placements per guidelines and compliance.
• Liaise with the Head of Content to maximise impact of stories online and in video.
• Ensure all layouts, headlines and text adhere to IPSO standards and the Editors’ Code of Practice.
